Makela ("chorus" in Hebrew) is a Jewish co-ed a capella group for young professionals in the Washington, DC area. We make beautiful music and have fun. We express and explore our Jewish identities while providing engaging and meaningful entertainment for the community.

Audition for Makela

Interested in joining Makela? We'd love to have you come audition for us! Our group members come from a wide variety of musical backgrounds and have varying levels of experience - all are welcome to audition!

Auditions usually last for about half an hour and include the following componenets:

--Warm up with the Musical Director (remember that even the warm-ups are part of your audition, so please give us your best the whole time).

--Perform two short performance pieces of your choosing. One should be a faster, upbeat, pop-like song, and the other should be a slower song. We like to hear two songs with different sounds or styles that show off your voice. No musical theater please.

--We'll teach you a short song from our repertoire that you will sing with other members, in order to hear voice blending.


Auditions take place during our rehearsals on Wednesday nights between 7:30-9:30.
